Thank you to my family for making the day special and sweet – I couldn’t think of three people I’d rather have spent it with!

To my friends everywhere, thank you for your warm wishes, phone calls, and beautiful gifts – I feel so blessed.

Most of all, thank you Lord, for lending me life.

(*just to be clear, that’s a legal-at-any-age strawberry lemonade I’m drinking)

So there I was between the displays of shower curtains and bath accessories, fingering through the towels and deciding which one was the softest, when all of a sudden, I heard it. Laced between a mix of radio tunes I was barely aware of, my ears perked up as those opening bars wafting softly from a speaker somewhere above my head.

A smile crept over my face. My eyes grew big. (At least I think they did.)

"They're playing my song!"

I practically giggle with excitement. I'd never heard it anywhere outside of my computer.

"Do you hear that? They're playing my song!"

My mom looks at me with a question mark on her face ("What song?"). Babbling explanations in happy bliss, I grin like a goon through the first verse, and then belt along with the chorus in a key that completely denies harmony, bouncing my way through to the finish.

Life gave me lemonade/And I can't imagine why
Born on a sunny day/Beneath a tangerine sky
I live life without pretending/I'm a sucker for happy endings
Thanks for the lemonade/Thanks for the lemonade

I love that song. It's like the soundtrack of my life. It's so me.

(Just the chorus, really…the rest pertains to love stuff that I'll leave for appreciation in another 10 years.)

Whenever I look up at the blue sky and feel the sunshine on my face, this is the song playing in my heart. It makes me think of friends and laughter and hugs and sweet things and favorite movie lines. It's the song that makes me want to throw my arms wide open and spin in circles like people do in music videos. The one that makes me smile about today like there's no tomorrow.

'Cause God gave me a life full of lemonade, and it sure is wonderful!

"Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling,
fix your thoughts on Jesus,
the apostle and high priest whom we confess."
Hebrews 3:1

Tell me if this scenario sounds familiar. You get up one the morning, delve into devotions, and walk away ready to face the day, your thoughts focused on the Lord.

But then, it happens.

Somewhere between the breakfast hour and the dinner table, those glowing aspirations and heavenly goals get shuffled into the back corner – out of sight, out of mind – faded into the background of chores and errands and phone calls and family issues and a million other things. Instead of living with a renewed thought process, you slip back into looking at the muddle. You lose your eternal perspective.

You forget Jesus.

My friend and accountability partner, Britt Leigh , and I were discussing this very thing Friday evening as we were going over our days. This same scenario had happened to us one too many times recently, and it was discouraging. After sharing a verse I had read in Hebrews, we were simultaneously struck with an idea.

Why not write that on our hands?!

Often it's the little reminders that help me keep focus. A scripture post-it on my bulletin board, a song on the radio, an email from a friend. This way we'd always have a reminder on hand (literally) with one twist of the wrist.

So we got out our ball-point pens on Saturday morning and scrawled (in my case, not hers ) those simple, powerful words across our hands. And you know what? It helped.

You'll find that it's mighty hard to forget Jesus when you have His name written on you.

"Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads."

Deuteronomy 11:18

The thought of this was the only motivation for dragging myself out of bed this morning….

All it takes is 1 egg, 1/4 cup of milk, 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla, 3- 4 slices of bread, some nutmeg or cinnamon, and you're set. And to really chase away the morning blues, I recommend going deluxe with strawberries and whipped cream. Add a prayer and that's MY kind of way to start the day off right!

Your Blog Should Be Blue

Your blog is a peaceful, calming force in the blogosphere. You tend to avoid conflict – you're more likely to share than rant. From your social causes to cute pet photos, your life is a (mostly) open book.
