Think God doesn’t have you in mind for “big” hard things? Think again. In this blog article, Brett & Alex at The Rebelution take a look at our perceptions and the truth about what “little” and “big” really mean in God’s sight.

:: Understanding Small Hard Things

This was a very clarifying article for me. Unlike some people, I have never felt called to a particular ministry outside my home or been given a burden for a humanitarian cause or a burning desire to take the gospel to distant lands. I am simply happy to “be” as He would have me here in this small sphere, where I may never reach more than a handful. Perhaps that sounds very dispassionate, and I do not wish it to become an excuse that holds me back from stepping beyond my comfort zone, but ministry in my family has always been more of an everyday life sort of approach, rather than a vocation or program oriented one.

Yet I have struggled with wondering if I am missing out on some “greater calling”, if I am being content with too little a task. In my heart I know this is not the truth. My “greater calling” is only the one God asks of me, regardless of what it looks like from the outside. Little can be big…it’s all a matter of perspective.

I loved this article at The Rebelution, because I think it brings a necessary emphasis to what it looks like to “do hard things.” In truth, I would say more often than not, hard things are small things. Faithfulness and love in everything is what counts. You’re so right, Hannah. :-)

P.S. Are you going to New Attitude this year? I forget if I’ve asked you already.

You are so right Hannah. Little can be big….it’s all a matter of perspective. Witnessing to family might be a small task to someone but, to you it could be the hardest biggest things for you to do. It all just depends on how you look at it! Love it!

I see I’m the 3rd person to say it, but you are so right!
Little can be big…it’s all a matter of perspective.
That is so good!
Thank you, Hannah!

It’s interesting that you raise this issue. I’ve been pondering the same issue myself.

I have no idea what God will want me to be doing five, ten, or twenty years down the road. But, on the other hand, I do know (generally) what He wants me to be doing tomorrow, and next week–and that’s really all I need to know for now.

Of course, it would be nice to know what He wants me to be doing down the road. But He probably knows I wouldn’t focus on what He wants me to be doing now if I knew that.

Little is much when God is in it :-)

Our families have shared this vision from early on…that’s not to say some of ours may not hear differently….”we can never look about us to others for the confirmation of our calling…because usually we are the only one who hears it.”–Esther has a neat testimony on this just lately.–
The Lord bless you Hannah..miss you. Mrs.U …hi to your family…I got your Mom’s b-day card today..tell her thanks
